Police Investigate Antisemitic Vandalism After Swastikas Found Inside NJ Synagogue

Authorities in Ocean County are investigating an apparent bias incident after multiple swastikas were discovered inside a synagogue in Lakewood last week.

 

According to information released by the Lakewood Police Department, officers were dispatched to a synagogue on Spruce Street at approximately 5:38 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, after receiving a report of suspicious markings inside the building.

 

Police said an individual arriving at the synagogue discovered several swastikas placed throughout the interior of the facility. 

Responding officers documented the markings, which were subsequently removed.

 

The incident is being investigated as an antisemitic bias crime. Detectives have not released information about possible suspects or a motive.

 

The Lakewood Police Department said the investigation remains active.
