A woman was found dead inside a Newark residence Sunday afternoon after police responded to conduct a wellness check, according to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Authorities said officers were dispatched at approximately 12:02 p.m. to a home on South 8th Street near 12th Avenue after concerns were raised about the occupant’s well-being.
When officers arrived, they detected an odor coming from inside the residence and forced entry into the home. Once inside, they discovered an unresponsive adult woman.
Officials said the woman was located in a different room from where debris from a collapsed ceiling had fallen.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Authorities said the death is not considered suspicious at this time, but the circumstances remain under investigation.
