Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Work Truck in Rumson; Investigation Underway

A 67-year-old bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon following a collision with a work truck at a Rumson intersection, according to information released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:37 p.m. on July 23 at the intersection of Hartshorne Lane (Ridge Road) and Navesink Avenue. 

Authorities said a 2024 Isuzu work truck traveling east on Hartshorne Lane collided with a man riding a Giant-brand bicycle.

 

The cyclist was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m. 

 

His identity has not yet been released pending the appropriate notifications.

 

Officials said the driver of the work truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

 

The fatal collision remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Rumson Police Department. 

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
