Emergency responders worked late Friday night to rescue two people trapped inside a passenger vehicle following a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth.
The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the northbound outer lanes near Exit 13A.
Initial reports from the scene indicated both occupants of the car were heavily trapped, prompting an extensive extrication effort by firefighters.
Rescue crews first freed the passenger before continuing to work to remove the driver from the wreckage.
Authorities later confirmed that both victims had been successfully extricated from the vehicle. An additional basic life support ambulance was requested to assist at the scene.
The condition of the victims has not been released, and no information regarding the cause of the crash was immediately available.
Motorists experienced significant delays in the area as emergency crews remained on scene.
