Firefighters from Newark and Irvington battled a stubborn house fire Wednesday morning at a residence near the Newark-Irvington border, where one firefighter sustained minor injuries while operating at the scene.
The fire broke out shortly after 10:20 a.m. at a two-story home on 18th Avenue.
Arriving firefighters encountered heavy flames extending from the second floor, prompting an aggressive attack to prevent the fire from spreading.
During the operation, crews reported the blaze had become deeply seated within portions of the structure, requiring extensive overhaul after the main body of the fire was knocked down.
Utility crews also responded to secure electrical service while firefighters continued extinguishing remaining hot spots.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was evaluated by EMS at the scene before remaining on duty.
Because the property is located directly along the Newark-Irvington border, officials are still working to determine which municipality will have primary responsibility for the incident.
That information has not yet been officially confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
