We hope you and your family stayed safe after yesterday’s round of severe weather that brought damaging storms, localized flooding, and two confirmed tornadoes in the state.
We’re waking up to much calmer conditions this morning, with temperatures sitting at 74 degrees in downtown Newark.
Across the state, it’s 70 degrees in Sussex, 70 in Somerville, 71 in Farmingdale, 71 in Toms River, and 74 in Newark.
National Weather Service storm survey teams from the National Weather Service are expected to continue assessing damage in areas, including Parsippany-Troy Hills, and Morristown to determine the strength and track of one of the tornadoes.
While yesterday’s storms prompted widespread warnings, much of North Jersey, including the Newark area, avoided the heaviest rainfall.
Some communities experienced brief downpours that led to localized flooding, but overall, the storm system packed more bark than bite for many locations.
Today brings a welcome change, with cooler and less humid conditions expected to settle in for much of the week.
According to the National Weather Service:
Today: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85 degrees. West winds 9 to 13 mph.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64 degrees. North winds around 8 mph.
