Newark Men Accused of Running Major Fentanyl, Cocaine Trafficking Operation

Two Newark men are facing federal drug trafficking and firearm charges after authorities say they seized approximately 16 kilograms of fentanyl, nearly one kilogram of cocaine, and a loaded firearm during a raid at a Newark residence.

According to information released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ramon Suero, 45, and Franklin Mambru, 39, were charged in a federal criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, and maintaining a drug-involved premises.

 

Federal authorities allege the pair operated a large-scale narcotics distribution operation from a residential building in Newark.

 

Investigators said law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the property on July 14, where they discovered narcotics throughout the building. 

Authorities recovered approximately 16 kilograms of fentanyl and 900 grams of cocaine, including drugs concealed inside a hidden trap compartment that investigators say could be opened remotely using key fobs.

 

During the search, officers also seized a firearm equipped with a large-capacity magazine loaded with approximately 51 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition.

 

Suero additionally faces charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

 

The investigation remains ongoing.
