Newark

Good Tuesday morning, Jersey!

A hazy, hot, and humid stretch begins today across Newark and much of North Jersey, with the next three days expected to bring dangerous summer heat.

If you’re heading out early or getting the kids ready for the bus stop, prepare for another scorcher.

It’s a mild 71 degrees in downtown Newark at 4:30 a.m., but temperatures will climb quickly through the morning, creating oppressive conditions by the afternoon.

An Extreme Heat Watch and Heat Advisories are in effect for much of North Jersey, with AccuWeather warning that the heat index could approach 110 degrees in some locations.

According to the National Weather Service:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 98. Southwest winds 7 to 14 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 78. West winds 9 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph.

If you must be outdoors, stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

Stay cool, Jersey!
