Officer Injured During Reported Irvington Street Takeover

A police officer was injured during a reported illegal street takeover in Irvington just after midnight Sunday, according to preliminary information.

The incident happened around 12:40 a.m. near the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Grove Street, where Irvington police reported an illegal street takeover was underway.

 

Reports indicated that an officer was struck by a vehicle involved in the incident, prompting requests for immediate mutual aid and emergency medical services.

 

Approximately nine minutes later, officials reported the situation was under control, mutual aid units were canceled, and the injured officer was being transported by Robert Wood Johnson EMS to a nearby hospital. The officer’s condition has not been released.

 

Preliminary reports also indicated that two blue Chevrolet Camaros with occupants wearing ski masks fled northbound from the scene.

 

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. 

Irvington police have not yet released an official statement, and additional details are expected as the investigation continues.
