Newark Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman who may have information about a shooting that left a juvenile injured earlier this month.

According to information released by the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 2:38 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, near 15th Avenue and Hayes Street.

When officers arrived, they did not locate any victims but found shell casings and discovered that a parked vehicle had been struck by gunfire.

A short time later, police learned that a juvenile male had arrived at University Hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the area and identified the injured juvenile as a suspect in the incident.

He has since been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

As the investigation continues, detectives are seeking to identify a woman who was observed at the scene during the shooting.

Anyone with information about her identity is asked to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS
