Authorities said members of the United States Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 36-year-old Raheem Rhett, of Jersey City, on Monday, July 6, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Rhett is charged in connection with the June 28 shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

He is currently being held at the Wake County Detention Center pending extradition to New Jersey.

The investigation began at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, when Jersey City police responded to reports of gunfire on Orient Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Responding officers found 38-year-old Jenaro Tejada, of Jersey City, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

During the investigation, officers also located a 45-year-old Jersey City man on Jackson Square suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He survived the incident after receiving medical treatment.

Prosecutors have charged Rhett with murder, three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, multiple weapons offenses, and being a certain person prohibited from possessing a firearm.
