A welfare check at a residence in Newark on Sunday afternoon led to the discovery of a deceased man, according to preliminary information.

Emergency crews were called to a third-floor apartment in the 50’s block of Kent Street at approximately 1:48 p.m. after concerns were raised about the occupant’s well-being.
Upon entering the apartment, responders located the body of an adult male in an advanced state of decomposition.
Hazmat personnel were requested to assist due to the condition of the scene.
Preliminary information indicates there are no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. Authorities believe the deceased may be the resident of the apartment, though official identification is pending.
The incident appears to be an unattended death discovered during a routine welfare check.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the man’s identity and the cause of death.
