Another Dangerous Day of Heat Ahead for New Jersey as Air Quality Alert Issued

Newark

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

We’re waking up to another very warm start across Newark and the North Jersey region, with dangerous heat once again taking hold as temperatures and humidity combine to create oppressive conditions.

Today will be another hot one, with heat index values expected to reach between 95 and 105 degrees.

While that is dangerous enough, the most intense stretch of this heat wave is expected to arrive Wednesday through Saturday, when it could feel as hot as 105 to 110 degrees in some areas.

Adding to today’s concerns, an Air Quality Alert is in effect for much of the state.

Sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and people with heart or lung conditions, should limit prolonged outdoor activity.

High temperatures today will climb into the low to mid-90s across much of New Jersey, with Sussex reaching around 91 degrees, Morristown and Somerville near 92, Toms River around 92, and Newark expected to top out near 95 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 92 degrees.

Light southwest winds will increase to 5 to 10 mph during the morning.

Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 p.m.

Overnight lows will fall to around 72 degrees, with southwest winds around 10 mph and gusts up to 21 mph.

Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets.

Make it a great day, New Jersey!
