A Newark man wanted in connection with an alleged stabbing and stalking incident involving a woman known to him has been arrested, authorities announced.
Jose R. Soares, 45, was taken into custody on June 22 at Branch Brook Park after investigators identified him as the suspect in a June 19 stabbing incident.
A warrant charging Soares with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and stalking had been issued following the investigation.
According to authorities, Soares is accused of stabbing the female victim and repeatedly appearing at her residence unannounced despite being told that his presence was not welcome.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
