One person was killed in a motor vehicle crash early Saturday near the intersection of Riverview Court and Passaic Avenue, authorities confirmed.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after midnight following reports of a serious crash involving a trapped occupant.
According to preliminary information , first responders worked to rapidly extricate the victim from the vehicle and initiated CPR at the scene.
In a statement provided to RLS Media, Lieutenant Michal Gontarczuk confirmed that the crash resulted in the death of one occupant of a vehicle involved in the incident.
“We can confirm that an accident occurred near the area of Riverview Court and Passaic Avenue and that one occupant of one vehicle is deceased,” Gontarczuk said. “We are not aware of any other injuries to any other persons.”
The circumstances surrounding the crash have not been released. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has assumed responsibility for the investigation, and Kearny police are referring all media inquiries to the prosecutor’s office.
Additional details, including the identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash, were not immediately available as the investigation remains active.
