Families in Summit will have an opportunity to learn water safety, connect with local health and safety organizations, and enjoy an evening of summer fun during a special event planned at the Summit Family Aquatic Center later this month.

According to the Summit Department of Community Programs, the Summer Health Fair and Swim Lesson will take place on Wednesday, June 24, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Summit Family Aquatic Center, located at 100 Ashwood Avenue.

The event is free and open to aquatic center members.

The day will begin with a free swim lesson at noon for SFAC members and paid guests.

Swimming instructors will provide children with instruction on safely entering the water, holding their breath underwater, floating techniques, and basic swimming strokes.

Following the lesson, a health and safety fair will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Representatives from the Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, Westfield Regional Health Department, and other community partners will provide information and demonstrations focused on staying safe around pools and during the summer season.

The event will conclude with the first Float Night of the season from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Organized with support from the GRACE Youth Advisory Council, the evening will feature a float parade, photo booth, splash contest, games, and other family-friendly activities.

Summit officials said SFAC members are welcome to invite guests free of charge for the Float Night portion of the event.
