Firefighters from multiple Bergen County communities battled a stubborn three-alarm blaze early Thursday morning at Lefkes Estiatorio, a well-known restaurant and event venue in Englewood Cliffs.
According to reports, crews were initially dispatched to the restaurant on Sylvan Avenue after reports of a smoke condition in the building’s basement.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a working fire and requested additional resources as crews began searching for the source of the smoke.
As firefighters advanced into the structure, heavy smoke conditions were reported throughout the commercial building.
Initial reports indicated the fire may have originated in or near an adjacent utility or electrical area before extending into the restaurant.
The incident quickly escalated, prompting a second alarm after flames became visible from the exterior of the building.
Fire officials later transmitted a third alarm when crews reported the fire was traveling upward through the walls of the multi-story restaurant, bar, and catering facility.
Mutual aid companies from surrounding municipalities responded to assist, while firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent further extension throughout the structure.
Officials also requested an expedited response from PSE&G as utility concerns became part of the operation.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene as a precaution. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The extent of the damage to the restaurant was not immediately known.

Fire officials have not yet released information regarding the cause of the blaze, and the investigation remains active.
