A scooter rider suffered critical injuries following a crash on Route 1 & 9 in Newark early Saturday morning, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
Police responded at approximately 5:47 a.m. on May 30 to reports of a collision involving a scooter and a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of Route 1 & 9 near Delancy Street.
Preliminary information indicates the scooter struck a vehicle that was stopped with its hazard lights activated along the roadway shoulder.
The male scooter operator sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities said the driver of the struck vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
