A man was struck and killed by an NJ TRANSIT train near Elizabeth Station Thursday evening, temporarily disrupting rail service along two major commuter lines.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. when Northeast Corridor Train 3510, which departed Rahway at 5:03 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 5:43 p.m., struck and fatally injured an adult male trespasser in the area of Elizabeth Station.

Officials said there were approximately 200 passengers and crew members aboard the train at the time of the incident.

No injuries were reported among those on board.

Rail service on the Northeast Corridor was temporarily suspended in both directions between New York and Trenton following the collision.

Service on the North Jersey Coast Line was also temporarily suspended between New York and Long Branch as authorities investigated the incident and crews worked at the scene.

Service on both rail lines has since resumed.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, led by New Jersey Transit Police Department.
