Register Now: NJ Assemblyman to Help Newark Families Apply for Utility Relief Programs

Residents looking for help managing utility costs will have an opportunity to receive free, one-on-one assistance during a Utility Assistance Event hosted New Jersey Assemblyman Chigozie Onyema in partnership with several community organizations and service providers.

 

The event will be held on Thursday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newark Public Library’s Vailsburg Branch, located at 75 Alexander Street in Newark.

 

Representatives from PSE&G, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Catholic Charities, La Casa de Don Pedro, United Community Corporation, and Verizon will be on hand to help residents explore utility relief programs, answer questions, and connect families with resources designed to reduce energy costs.

 

Attendees can receive guidance with applications and learn about programs that may provide assistance with electric, natural gas, and heating expenses.

 

Residents planning to attend should bring the following documents:

 

Register HERE

 

  • One month of proof of income for all household members age 18 and older
  • Copies of Social Security cards or proof of residency status for all household members
  • Proof of address, such as a rental lease or housing authority letter
  • For homeowners, a property tax bill, mortgage statement, or deed
  • All pages of electric, natural gas, and heating bills

Organizers encourage eligible residents to take advantage of the free event and learn about available assistance programs that may help lower household utility costs.

 

The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on May 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newark Public Library’s Vailsburg Branch, 75 Alexander Street, Newark.
