Worker Killed After Industrial Accident at Newark Bakery

A worker died Friday night after becoming trapped inside a piece of machinery at a Newark bakery, authorities said.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., police officers and firefighters were dispatched at approximately 11:20 p.m. on May 22 to Santos Bakery following reports of a worker trapped in a machine.

 

Emergency responders arrived and found the male employee pinned between a malfunctioning horizontal conveyor and a lower stainless-steel tray. 

Firefighters worked to lift the machinery off the victim.


Despite rescue efforts, the worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
 

Authorities said the incident occurred inside the bakery located in the 123 block of Hudson Street.

The worker’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

 

The fatal workplace accident remains under investigation.
