A 60-year-old Plainfield man accused of gunning down another city resident at a local athletic field earlier this month has been arrested and charged with murder, authorities announced Friday.

Jeffrey Lee, 60, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons in connection with the death of Tyquan James, 39, of Plainfield.
According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James Abney, officers responded to Campbell Field in the 1300 block of East Third Street at approximately 10:49 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found James suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
James was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators identified Lee as the suspect, and on May 22, members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested him in Orange.
He is currently being held at the Union County Jail pending his next court appearance.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
