Severe weather conditions that swept through the North Jersey region have forced the closure of Lincoln School on Thursday, May 21, after strong conditions caused downed electrical lines, damaged utility poles, and a power outage affecting the building.
School officials said the decision to close the school came after consultations with local police and utility companies, who determined that conditions around the campus were unsafe for students and staff.
According to officials, crews continue working to address hazardous conditions surrounding the school property.
Administrators said a delayed opening was considered, but authorities determined there would not be enough time to safely restore access to the building before students and employees arrived.
The stormy weather that moved across parts of North Jersey caused scattered power outages and utility damage in several communities, with emergency crews responding to reports of fallen wires and weather-related hazards through the region.
As a result of the closure, Lincoln School’s Art Show and Spring Concert scheduled for Thursday evening has also been postponed.
School officials said the event will be rescheduled, with additional information expected to be released once a new date is finalized.

Officials thanked families for their patience and understanding, emphasizing that the safety of students, staff, and visitors remains the district’s top priority.
