As of 4:30 a.m., it was already a warm 76 degrees in downtown Newark, and residents heading out early are being urged to prepare for dangerous heat and poor air quality conditions throughout the region this Tuesday.

Light clothing, staying hydrated, and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day is strongly recommended as the combination of heat and humidity will make temperatures feel even hotter.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 97 degrees.

West winds will range from 6 to 13 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 23 mph.
