The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert for certain meat and poultry products that may contain dairy ingredients contaminated with Salmonella.

According to FSIS, the products include FDA-regulated dairy ingredients made with recalled dry milk powder.

The issue was discovered after the Food and Drug Administration notified FSIS that several federally regulated establishments had received the affected ingredients.

Officials said more products may be added as the recall investigation continues, and consumers are urged to check FSIS updates frequently.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the products at this time.

However, FSIS is concerned that some items may already be in consumers’ or retailers’ refrigerators or freezers.

Consumers who purchased the affected products should not eat them. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps within six hours to six days after exposure.

Older adults, infants and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for severe illness.

Anyone concerned about a possible illness should contact a health care provider.
