A Trenton man has been charged in connection with a deadly three-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Pennsylvania driver in South Brunswick earlier this year, Middlesex County officials announced.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka, the fatal collision occurred around 2:04 a.m. on April 19 on Route 1 North near the intersection of Ridge Road.
Investigators said a 2025 Toyota Camry operated by a 31-year-old woman from Jersey City was struck from behind by a 2012 Lexus SUV driven by Leonid Tubert, 53, of Chester, Pennsylvania.
Authorities said after the crash, Tubert and the Camry’s driver exited their vehicles to assess the damage and speak with one another.
While standing outside the vehicles, officials said a 2016 Lexus sedan driven by Darnell Ingram, 45, of Trenton, slammed into the rear of the Lexus SUV, pinning Tubert between the vehicles.
Tubert was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
Ingram sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the Camry’s driver suffered minor injuries. The passenger inside the Camry was not injured.
Following an investigation led by Officer James Kraivec of the South Brunswick Police Department and Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities said toxicology test results led to criminal charges against Ingram.
On May 11, 2026, Ingram was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree assault by auto, third-degree causing death while operating a vehicle while suspended, fourth-degree causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while suspended, and driving under the influence.
Authorities said Ingram surrendered to police on May 11. Following a pre-trial detention hearing, he was released on Level 3+ home detention.
