Authorities in Paterson are investigating a mass shooting that left multiple people wounded Sunday evening, according to preliminary information gathered at the scene.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Paterson Police were alerted after a ShotSpotter device activated near the 230 block of Rosa Parks Boulevard.
Responding officers arrived and discovered as many as seven victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the area.
Police quickly taped off the scene as emergency crews rendered aid to the victims.
All injured individuals were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. At least one victim reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries and is not expected to survive.
Due to a large and rowdy crowd that gathered near the crime scene, additional law enforcement agencies responded to assist with crowd control and security efforts.
Units from Clifton Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office were observed assisting Paterson authorities.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to lead the investigation alongside Paterson Police.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
