A federal court has struck down President Trump’s latest attempt to impose tariffs on products purchased by New Jersey consumers, families and businesses.

According to New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, the U.S. Court of International Trade granted summary judgment to a coalition of 24 states, ruling that the tariffs were unauthorized by law.
The case challenged the administration’s use of Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose 10% tariffs on most products worldwide.
The court found that the law does not allow tariffs based simply on trade deficits, stating that the proclamation was invalid.
“We are grateful that the court has agreed with us that the President cannot unilaterally impose these plainly unlawful tariffs,” Davenport said.

The ruling marks another setback for the administration’s tariff efforts after earlier legal challenges to tariffs imposed under emergency powers.
