According to information released by Wayne Mello, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit took Tomas Amelcolima, 42, of West New York, into custody on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Amelcolima is charged with death by auto and knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, both second-degree offenses.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he is awaiting his first court appearance.

The charges stem from a fatal incident that occurred on Saturday, December 27, 2025. At approximately 5:40 p.m., Union City police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck near 30th Street and Palisades Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found an 83-year-old woman, later identified as Fabiola Bedoya of Union City, suffering from severe injuries.

Authorities said the driver involved fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
