A man wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Union County died following a standoff with law enforcement in Bergen County, according to information released by authorities.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced details surrounding a death investigation that unfolded at a residence on Lake Avenue in Lyndhurst during the early morning hours of Thursday, April 16, 2026.
According to officials, at approximately 5:33 a.m., members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the Lyndhurst Police Department, attempted to execute an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Brendan R. Trivisonno. The warrant stemmed from a homicide investigation in Union County.
Authorities said Trivisonno fled from officers and barricaded himself inside his residence, prompting a response from the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team. Law enforcement personnel attempted to negotiate with him from outside the home.
During the standoff, officials say Trivisonno, who was alone inside the residence, fired a weapon and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. SWAT team members later entered the home and located him.
Emergency medical personnel from Hackensack University Medical Center Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS), who were already on scene, immediately began life-saving efforts. However, Trivisonno was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a review of the initial facts, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office notified the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
