UPDATE: Resident Hurt While Saving Pets During Franklin Township House Fire

An investigation is underway following a residential fire in Franklin Township on Saturday afternoon, according to information released by Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks.

Authorities said officers with the Franklin Township Police Department were dispatched around 12:10 p.m. to a home in the 100 block of Irvington Avenue after reports of a fire. 

When police arrived, they encountered heavy smoke conditions coming from the residence.

 

Firefighters from several agencies, including East Franklin, Community, Somerset Fire and Rescue, New Brunswick Fire Department, and North Brunswick Fire Department, responded to the scene and worked to bring the blaze under control.
 

Officials said one resident was injured while attempting to evacuate dogs from the home. 

The individual was transported to a nearby hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS. The Milltown Rescue Squad also assisted emergency crews at the scene.

 

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by the Franklin Township Fire Prevention Department.
