We are waking up this morning to a critical election day across North Jersey as polls are now open in the 11th Congressional District, a seat left vacant after Mikie Sherrill was elected governor in November 2025.

From where I stand covering this region, I’m seeing strong voter interest across Essex County communities including Montclair, West Orange, Livingston, and Bloomfield—all playing a key role in deciding who will represent the district in Washington.
This special election comes after a February primary and now heads to a final decision today, with voters choosing among three candidates.
Democratic candidate Analilia Mejia has centered her campaign on economic justice, affordability, and expanding opportunities for working families, while also emphasizing healthcare access and community investment.

Republican candidate Joe Hathaway is focusing on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and policies aimed at strengthening small businesses and reducing government spending.
Running as an independent, Alan Bond is positioning himself as an alternative to party politics, highlighting government accountability, transparency, and practical solutions to everyday economic concerns.
As I move through the district this morning—from busy streets in Montclair to neighborhoods in Livingston and Bloomfield—it’s clear this election carries weight.
This is not just about filling a vacancy, but about shaping representation for a district that plays a major role in North Jersey.

Polls are open, and voters are now making their voices heard.
Stay with us for updates throughout the day.
