An active investigation is underway after a shooting at a nursing facility in Egg Harbor Township early Monday morning left one person dead and another fighting for their life.
According to information released by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred just before 7 a.m. in the 6800 block of Delilah Road at the Excelcare at Egg Harbor Rehabilitation Facility.
Responding officers from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department arrived at the scene and secured the area after reports of gunfire.
Authorities confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead, while a second victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators have not yet released the identities of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.
Details surrounding what led to the shooting, including whether any arrests have been made, remain unclear at this time.
However, officials emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and involved individuals who were known to each other.
Authorities also confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to residents or the surrounding community, and all individuals inside the facility were accounted for and safe.
