Authorities are investigating a crash that left multiple people injured after a vehicle struck a parked police unit in Newark’s South Ward just after midnight.

The collision occurred along Route 22 East near the intersection of Meeker Avenue, in the area just outside Weequahic Park.
Preliminary information indicates that the police vehicle was parked at the scene of an emergency when it was hit by another car.
The impact reportedly trapped occupants inside the civilian vehicle, prompting a response from emergency crews.
Officials confirmed that no police officers were inside the patrol car at the time of the crash, and no officers were reported injured.
The individuals inside the other vehicle sustained injuries, though the severity of those injuries was not immediately disclosed.
The crash caused minor delays for commuters traveling into Newark as crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the incident remains under active investigation.
