Police in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that prompted a response from the city’s Shooting Response Team early Sunday morning.

Authorities say gunfire erupted around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Astor Street and New Jersey Railroad Avenue in the city’s South Ward.
When officers arrived, they located multiple shell casings at the scene. However, a canvass of the area did not reveal any victims.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

The motive for the shooting is under active and ongoing investigation. No additional information has been released.
