Mercer County authorities have charged a city man with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning, according to a statement released by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson said the investigation, led by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton’s Shooting Response Team, resulted in the arrest of Darnell Housley, 40, of Trenton.
Authorities said that at approximately 1 a.m. on March 27, Trenton police responded to the area of Beatty Street and Freudenmacher Alley after a ShotSpotter alert detected a single gunshot.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Wilber Quib-Cuc, 20, of Trenton, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Quib-Cuc was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries on March 28.
During the investigation, detectives returned to the scene the following day to canvass for additional evidence.
While there, investigators observed a man matching the suspect’s description.
Housley was detained and found in possession of a 9mm handgun and suspected heroin, officials said.
He was initially charged with weapons and narcotics offenses. Following further investigation, authorities filed additional charges, including murder, on Tuesday.

Prosecutors have moved to detain Housley pending trial. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
