According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Carlos Pean was taken into custody on March 28 in Tinton Falls by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with the prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit.

Pean is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Adeline Alfred. Prosecutors have filed a motion to keep him detained pending trial.

Officials said the investigation began around 7 a.m. on March 24, when officers with the Hamilton Police Division responded to an apartment on the first block of Bradford Avenue to conduct a welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers found Alfred unresponsive in a bedroom.

Authorities said she appeared to have been the victim of a physical assault and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
