Mayor Vauss to Highlight Progress in 2026 Irvington Address

Irvington Township

By: STAFF

Mayor Tony Vauss will deliver the 2026 Irvington State of the Township Address on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 5:30 PM at Transcend Worship Center, 971 Clinton Avenue, Irvington, New Jersey.

The annual address will give residents, stakeholders, and community partners an opportunity to hear directly from the Mayor about Irvington’s progress, current priorities, and vision for the future.

Township coverage of last year’s event described the State of the Township as a “celebration of unity and accomplishments,” underscoring its role as a major annual civic moment for the community.

This year’s address comes at a time of measurable momentum for Irvington.

In January, the Irvington Municipal Council formally recognized that the township recorded just 1 homicide in all of 2025, the lowest number ever documented in Irvington’s modern era, after years in which annual homicide totals routinely ranged from 25 to nearly 30.

The same council action states that the Vauss administration now accounts for 6 of the lowest homicide years in Irvington’s recorded history.

In addition, Irvington’s 2023 Annual Police Report documented property crime down 5.95% and burglary down 41.72%from the prior year.

Irvington is also seeing visible progress through redevelopment and economic development.

The township’s 2025–2029 Urban Enterprise Zone Plan highlights ongoing projects including a 5-story residential building on Ellis Avenue, an over-400-unit residential complex at the former Pabst Brewery site, a major state-supported project at 722 Chancellor Avenue, and the continuing redevelopment of the former Irvington General Hospital site with additional senior housing and social services.

The same plan says these investments are expected to spur new retail, services, jobs, and commercial activity, while Irvington continues to promote opportunity through initiatives such as the Irvington Job Fair, First Source Program, and Annual Business Summit.

The township is also expanding pathways to stability and growth for residents.

Irvington’s Keys to the City initiative is designed to make homeownership more accessible for eligible residents and township employees, with 4 homes initially available through the program.

At the same time, Irvington’s 2025–2029 Consolidated Plan prioritizes affordable rental housing, homeowner rehabilitation, public facilities and infrastructure, and expanded public services for residents.

Quality-of-life improvements are also part of the township’s current momentum.

Irvington’s Clean Sweep Initiative added scheduled late-night, early-morning, and weekend sanitation operations, along with equipment including a 900 ECL Sewer Jet, a new garbage truck, and a Multi-Hog CV350 compact street-cleaning vehicle.

The township also launched a Senior Police Academy focused on safety awareness and crime prevention for older residents.

The 2026 State of the Township Address is expected to reflect on these gains while outlining the next phase of Irvington’s work in public safety, redevelopment, neighborhood improvement, homeownership, and opportunity.

Residents are encouraged to attend and hear firsthand about the township’s continued progress and future direction.

Irvington’s Community Development and Planning office describes its mission as promoting economic growth, responsible redevelopment, and a stronger, more resilient township for generations to come.
