Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on March 18, 2026, the Honorable Ralph Paolone, J.S.C., sentenced Kevin Dorsey, 53, of Egg Harbor Township, to an aggregate term of 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.

According to Atlantic County officials, on October 26, 2023, members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence on Zion Road.
Upon arrival, police located the victim, Charlena Burnett, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced deceased, ACPO officials say.
This investigation, which was conducted by members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit, revealed that Dorsey shot the victim multiple times inside their shared bedroom, ACPO officials said.
Atlantic County authorities say police seized the revolver handgun used in the commission of the crime. Dorsey, who is a certain person prohibited from lawfully acquiring firearms, admitted to buying the revolver illegally the year before the shooting and using it to kill Burnett.
According to ACPO officials, on the count of Certain Person Not to Possess a Firearm, the defendant was sentenced to an extended term of 20 years with 10 years of parole ineligibility. On the amended count of Aggravated Manslaughter, the defendant was sentenced to a concurrent term of 17 years with 85% subject to the No Early Release Act.

The defendant has been lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since his arrest on October 26, 2023, Atlantic County officials stated.
