Branchburg

By: Richard L. Smith

Firefighters in Somerset County battled a fast-moving, multi-unit fire early Wednesday morning that tore through a row of townhomes in Branchburg, sending flames through rooftops and prompting a large emergency response.

Crews were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. to 975 Old York Road (Red Rock Townhomes), where they arrived to find heavy fire engulfing multiple units in the complex.

Due to the intensity and rapid spread of the flames, a second alarm was immediately struck to bring in additional manpower.

Officials on scene reported that approximately 10 townhome units were impacted, with fire visibly shooting through the roofs.

Firefighters deployed at least seven hose lines in an aggressive effort to contain the blaze and prevent further spread throughout the development.

Despite frigid early morning temperatures, crews worked swiftly under challenging conditions.

An initial search of the affected buildings did not immediately reveal any injuries; however, authorities cautioned that it remains too early to determine whether all residents have been accounted for.

Multiple fire departments from surrounding municipalities responded to assist Branchburg crews, providing additional resources and support as the firefight continued.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials are expected to release more details as they become available.

This remains a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information is confirmed by Somerset County authorities.
