Cold, Blustery Start to Sunday Across Newark and North Jersey

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Residents across Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a chilly start to the second half of the weekend.

Temperatures hovered around 34 degrees early Sunday morning, just above freezing, as cloud cover and gusty winds made for a cold and blustery day.

For those heading out to Sunday services or early morning activities, bundling up will be important.

Winds are expected to gust around 15 mph, and limited sunshine will keep temperatures feeling colder throughout much of the day.

According to the National Weather Service, skies will remain mostly cloudy early before gradually becoming partly sunny.

High temperatures are expected to reach around 50 degrees. Northeast winds between 5 and 14 mph will shift southeast later in the afternoon, with gusts potentially reaching 24 mph.

Conditions will change overnight as rain moves into the region. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected after 2 a.m. Monday, along with areas of patchy fog.

Temperatures will fall to around 42 degrees by the evening before rising to near 50 degrees overnight. Southeast winds of 10 to 14 mph could gust as high as 25 mph, with a 100 percent chance of precipitation.

Drivers should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility late tonight into early Monday morning as the storm system moves through the region.
