Maplewood Township officials are reminding residents to secure their vehicles and remain vigilant following two recent incidents involving suspicious activity and theft from vehicles in the community.

According to information sent by Maplewood police officials, officers responded to a report of a theft from a motor vehicle on Peachtree Road on the morning of March 9.
Police said the incident was reported at approximately 7:48 a.m. when a resident noticed the driver’s side door of their vehicle open and the interior rummaged through.
The vehicle was still in reverse, and several items were reported missing. The incident remains under investigation by the Maplewood Police Department.
In a separate incident earlier that same day, Maplewood police documented a suspicious situation involving criminal trespassing at a Warren Road residence.
Authorities said a homeowner reported that around 12:29 a.m., an unknown male walked onto the driveway and attempted to open the driver’s side door of a parked vehicle.
The vehicle was locked, preventing entry, and the suspect fled the area on foot.
Both incidents remain under active investigation.
Police are urging residents to help prevent similar crimes by ensuring vehicles are locked and homes are properly secured at all times.
Officials say taking simple precautions can play a significant role in protecting personal property and assisting police efforts to keep the community safe.
