Paterson Police Launch 2026 Recruitment Campaign, Applications Open Through March 31

The Paterson Police Department has announced the launch of its 2026 recruitment campaign, encouraging qualified candidates to pursue a career in law enforcement serving one of New Jersey’s largest cities.

According to a statement released by the department, applications are now being accepted through March 31, 2026, with the entry-level examination scheduled to take place this summer.

 

Officials say the campaign, themed “Your Community. Our Mission. Paterson Police.”, aims to attract a diverse group of applicants, including college graduates, military veterans, bilingual candidates, career changers, and residents of Paterson interested in serving their community.

Authorities noted that officers can earn more than $100,000 after seven years of service, along with benefits that include medical coverage and pension protections.

 

The department’s Community Affairs Division will assist local applicants throughout the hiring process and will cover the application fee for up to 200 Paterson residents.

Officials also announced that informational open houses will be held March 14 and March 21 at the Community Affairs substation located at 930 Main Street, where prospective candidates can learn about the hiring process and receive guidance on preparing for the written exam and physical fitness test.
