Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a tragic shooting that left four people dead early Tuesday morning in Berkeley Township.
According to a statement released by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said detectives from the Major Crime Unit, along with officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department and investigators from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, responded to the scene and launched an active investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that three individuals were fatally shot during the incident.
Authorities said the suspected gunman then turned the weapon on himself.
Officials reported that the suspected shooter was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Prosecutor Billhimer stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Authorities said additional information will be released as the investigation continues and more details become available.
