Newark

Good morning, New Jersey!

We are waking up to above-freezing temperatures and dry conditions across Newark and much of the North Jersey region on this Thursday morning, but don’t let the quiet start fool you, a rainy and somewhat stormy day is ahead.

If you are getting ready to head out the door, make sure to grab the umbrella and possibly a raincoat because periods of steady rain are expected to move into the region and stick with us for much of the day.

Temperatures are sitting around 46 degrees early this morning, and the rainfall expected today should help melt much of the snow that has been lingering around the region for the past several weeks.

While conditions are dry right now, radar shows a large area of precipitation pushing in from the west that will gradually spread across North Jersey.

Rain is expected to begin arriving around 7 a.m. and will likely continue through the afternoon and into much of the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, today will bring rain and areas of patchy fog with a high temperature near 42 degrees.

Winds will remain calm early before becoming northeast at around 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

The chance of precipitation is 100 percent, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Tonight, rain is expected to continue mainly before 4 a.m., along with patchy fog. Overnight temperatures will fall to around 37 degrees with northeast winds between 7 and 9 mph.
