Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced that two Jersey City women have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured several juveniles last year.

According to information released by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Tamara Tyre, 32, of Jersey City, has been charged with multiple offenses, including five counts of aggravated assault, five counts of endangering an injured victim, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, referring to the vehicle used in the incident.
She is also charged with three counts of assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury, knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and obstruction.
Authorities said Tyre was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility where she is being held pending her first court appearance.
A second individual, Yolanda Tyre, 56, also of Jersey City, was charged with false reporting to law enforcement and obstruction.
Investigators allege she provided false information to authorities during the investigation. Yolanda Tyre was arrested at her residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and was also transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her court appearance.
Officials said the charges stem from an incident that occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, when the Jersey City Police Department received reports that multiple individuals had been struck by a vehicle on Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Responding officers found four male juveniles, ages 13, 15, and two 17-year-olds, all from Jersey City, who had been struck by a vehicle. Investigators later identified a fifth juvenile victim during the course of the investigation.
Authorities said the juveniles were operating or riding on two motorized vehicles, described as mopeds, when they were struck by a sedan.
The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene following the crash.
During the investigation, detectives identified Tamara Tyre as the driver of the Hyundai sedan involved in the collision. Yolanda Tyre was identified as a passenger in the vehicle.
Investigators allege that Yolanda Tyre falsely told authorities that a different person had been in the passenger seat at the time of the crash.
The investigation was conducted by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and remains ongoing.
