Drivers of late-model Hondas are being urged to take extra precautions following an increase in thefts involving certain popular models.

Authorities are cautioning owners of 2023 and newer Honda Accords, Civics, and CR-Vs after reports that the vehicles have become attractive targets for thieves.
According to officials, criminals are exploiting keyless entry technology by using electronic devices capable of capturing or duplicating key fob signals.
Once access is gained, suspects can use the push-to-start feature to quickly drive away.
In some incidents, thieves are not taking the entire vehicle but instead breaking in to remove airbags, which have a high resale value on the black market.
Law enforcement officials are advising drivers to consider additional layers of protection.
Recommended safeguards include installing steering wheel locks, pedal locks, or other aftermarket anti-theft systems designed to slow down or deter criminals.
Parking in well-lit areas, secured garages, or locations with surveillance cameras can also reduce the risk of becoming a target.

Police remind residents that while newer vehicles come equipped with advanced technology, added physical security measures can still serve as an effective deterrent.
