IRVINGTON MAYOR: “Irvington Firefighters Battle Deadly Blaze on Coit Street“

Irvington fire officials are investigating the cause of a deadly blaze that claimed at least one life early this morning, according to a statement released to RLS Media by Mayor Tony Vauss.

 

The Irvington Fire Department responded to 290 Coit Street at approximately 3:13 a.m. following reports of a building fire.

 

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions along with what officials described as a hazardous materials situation inside a one-story commercial building. 

A second alarm was quickly transmitted, bringing mutual aid from several surrounding municipalities, including the Nutley Haz-Mat Unit.

 

During firefighting operations, authorities confirmed one civilian fatality. 

 

The structure sustained significant damage.

 

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation, and firefighting operations were ongoing at the time of the release.
