It was a magnificent night for Newark and for someone I’ve had the privilege of watching grow from a focused student into one of Hollywood’s most respected leading men.
According to reports released following the 32nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Michael B. Jordan earned the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his work in Sinners.
The honor adds yet another milestone to a career that began long before the bright lights of Los Angeles — it began right here in Newark.
Jordan is a proud graduate of Arts High School, the nation’s first public high school dedicated to the visual and performing arts.
I remember him not as a global star, but as a student in my television production class during his final two years at the school.
