Barricaded Man Sparks Overnight Police Response After Paterson House Fire

An active and ongoing investigation continued into the early morning hours after a man barricaded himself inside a home that caught fire on Berkshire Avenue in Paterson, initial reports said.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Berkshire Avenue at approximately 12:10 a.m. following reports of a fire and individuals injured inside the home. 

 

When officers arrived, they encountered a developing situation involving a man who remained inside the residence as flames spread.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist, including the Paterson Police Department and the New Jersey State Police. 

 

Officials worked to secure the scene and attempt communication with the individual, who was described by responders as barricaded inside the home.

 

At least two people inside were reportedly injured by the suspect. 

 

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the extent of their injuries or the events leading up to the fire.
 

Law enforcement sources indicated the incident may involve a domestic dispute; however, Paterson police have not publicly confirmed those details. 

 

Investigators have also not confirmed reports that a weapon was involved.

 

As of 4:45 a.m., the situation remained active, with emergency crews maintaining a perimeter around the property while negotiators and fire personnel worked at the scene.
